It was cloudy and rainy at HOTO’s Sunday. I was surprised when I was told that the Mark Roberts Band was setting up on the deck. I grabbed my camera and was off. It was wet, at times a mist, others a slow drizzle. Fans were still there and were having a great time. It was time for a break, the band had been working hard. Mark announced that they would start back in about 20 minutes. They musicians started on their break. Mark stood on stage. I could tell something was bothering him. After about a minute he started gathering his guys. I asked what was going on. Mark said “If these guys are going to come out in the rain to hear us, we’re going to play for em”. The band hadn’t finished their drinks, some hadn’t had a chance to order one. After about a 4 minute break all were back on stage putting on one of their best shows ever. It was a small gesture but the crowd appreciated it.
I left HOTO’s for Boom Boom’s. The Carolina Soul Band was scheduled. When I arrived I learned the band had been canceled due to increased rain. The guys had a long, rainy drive back to Winston-Salem. Quite a lot of fans were there. The guys stayed around for hours talking with everyone. The guys could have left but didn’t until everyone that had come to see them had a chance to get a picture, a handshake or a hug. The guys made a point to talk with everyone there before they left and thank them for coming out.
Two separate bands, both Class Acts. Make a point to catch The Mark Roberts Band and the Carolina Soul Band whenever they are in your area. Thanks.
